Paper Quilting is Fun :]

I am always looking for new things to keep me busy satisfy my ADHD. So I thought that maybe quilting and sewing was a good way to do this. Sure, I have to sit still for periods of time but it keeps my mind thinking and it keeps my hands busy. So instead of rushing into things like I usually do, I planned out this hobby. I made a "template" on my computer and printed it out. I looked at tutorial videos on About.com. Then I started quilting paper to get acquainted with things.

Here are my first squares. This might possibly be the ugliest "quilt" I have ever seen, but like I said...it kept me occupied :]

I folded all of the paper corners and just started frivolously stitching away. Here's the front...

...And here's the back...

Pretty ugly, huh? And my stitches were too big and too far apart, and I didn't anchor the thread correctly. It was pretty much one big mess. So I found another tutorial and followed her lead...

Here is my second attempt at stitching paper together. This time I didn't fold anything until I was done and I laid the seam to one side.

The polka dots give me a headache too, but I think it looks much better than my first try. And the back has greatly improved. It is neat and anchored correctly (well...as correctly anchored as paper gets :])

Next time, I think I will try with some scrap fabric and see how it goes. I liked hand-stitching more than I thought I would. I was going to buy a sewing machine, but I think I'd rather hand-stitch them. It is very relaxing and my grandmother's sewing machine only make me want to throw it. Operator error? Psht. NO!

Change Your Look, Not Your Sole :]

So if you are following me on Twitter, you know that I am biting my nails on a daily basis waiting for my PRAXIS PPST scores to arrive. Here's how they score:
Reading: 177 points to pass
Writing: 173 points to pass
Math: 177 points to pass
= a composite score of 527

I got a 182 on the Reading. And I don't know if I feel so confident about my Math. Some of the people I went to school with, missed the mark by only 1 point. 1 point. That would pretty much devastate me. Which means I would have to take one of the tree tests again to up my composite score. So maybe my Reading will compensate a little for my Math. Fingers crossed.

On the same topic, I have to call Towson to see if they will roll-over my acceptance from the Spring to the Fall semester. I sure hope so :] But it all really depends on my PRAXIS scores. I'm waiting on them to graduate from Carroll with my AAT in Elementary Education, too. So hopefully by Monday.

Aside from all my school talk, Justin and I went to Noodles Thursday night for dinner. And he bought my graduation present:

SwitchFlops :]
I really like love these shoes. They are so comfortable. I can't wait to get some more of them :]

I'll leave you with the latest picture of the plant I have managed to keep alive!

It get's bigger by the day. Soon it will take-over my desk :]

Signs of Life

Justin swears, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I kill every plant he gives me. Well..."news for you!" the potted plant he gave me, it lives :]

So there! I win! It's Wednesday - which means it is my only day off this week. So I plan on being a busy bee. Said plans include: tanning, washing my car, laundry, cleaning my room, getting my cut and Wii Fit :] I will be in a cleaning frenzy today. I'm pretty sure my caffeinated night from Fred & Brandee's rolled over into today :] By the way...having a pitcher of cold coffee for the summer available around the clock...not such a wise idea - but still a delicious one :] Off to Hollywood to tan :]

My Current Obsession:

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. Yes, I know... I fell into the Twilight craze :] I'm already on page 251. I'll read them all if Kappes doesn't spoil it for me :]

Playing Catch-Up

^^ Is exactly what I am doing. It has been almost two weeks since I have posted anything! So bear with me. I have lots of pictures to post - including: our anniversary weekend, the speedway, and my poster.

April 30, 2009 marked our 4 year anniversary :] I can't believe it has been so long. I feel old (Justin and I have been together since Junior year at NCHS!) He surprised me and took me Shining Dawn Bed & Breakfast for a night. It was so romantic. We were the only guests in the house :]

The house was pretty much huge. It was built in 1902. I was a little weary of it at first. Considering most of the places on Ghost Hunters that turn out to be haunted are hotels and B&B's. eeeepppp!! But I made it through the night, and if any ghosts were there, they didn't come looking for me :]
Justin took this once we got there. The following pictures are some of my favorites from our stay.
Outside in the garden.
Looking down from the deck off of our room.
More pictures of the backyard. It was really pretty even though it was rainy that weekend.
He looks so excited doesn't he?! This is what he does when I say "Justin, smile :]" Cheese!
The mural that was painted on the wall behind the day bed. There were glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. We stayed in the Mid-Summer Night's Dream room.
The sunroom. When we got there, we sat in this room for two hours. I read Twilight and Justin was looking at stuff for GNW.

Breakfast included: broiled grapefruit (weird, huh? but tasty!), German apple pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, and OJ with raspberries!

This concludes our anniversary weekend!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS is the poster that took all day Wednesday, most of Thursday afternoon, and Saturday to make. But thankfully, I am done with it. I spent all day Wednesday cutting out the letters and add-ons with my Cricut (what a God send that machine is!!) and glue sticking! A 5 page paper and lesson plan goes with this. Oy Vey!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, last night - Saturday May 9 we went to Trail-Ways Speedway to watch Justin's cousin Charles Shaffer race. This was my first trip to the races and I am glad to say...it won't be my last! I had a blast. Next time, I will dress for the occassion, though. Flip flops, bermuda shorts, a v-neck t-shirt, and brand new glasses is not the right attire. I had dirt everywhere! But it was lots of fun! I can't wait to go back :] Our brood included: Uncle Steve & Aunt Treasa, Jeremy, Adam, Justin & I, Bert & Raquel, Mark, Tab, Markie & Maddie, Hog & Woofy, Anna May & Ed, Charles' son (I cannot for the life of me remember his name...), Melissa & Drew. Here are a few of my favorite pictures that Maddie and I took :]

Justin and me in the stands!
Me and Porkchop (aka - Frank) :]
Markie minus three teeth!
Aunt Brittany and Maddie!!
Charles' car is behind the orange one. Number 12!
These cars kicked up more dirt and mud than any others :]
Maddies "James Dean" Zier! haha!

That pretty much concludes catching up on the fun things around here. Thanks for bearing with me, I know is was long :] I'll try to post more often :] No promises.

Happy Mother's Day!
